WILSON, Whip
(1911–1964)
   Born Roland Charles Meyers, Whip Wilson began being promoted after World War II as a successor to Buck Jonesby Monogram. He starred in 22 B Westernsrounding up bad men with his trusty whip. As part of his competition with PRC star Lash La Rue, he used a whip as his gimmick. His first film was Crashing Thru (1949) and his last was Wyoming Roundup (1952). Monogram attempted to make Wilson’s character a cross between Buck Jones and Lash La Rue. His horse was variously named Silver Bullet, Bullet, and Rocket. Andy Clyde and Fuzzy Knight played sidekick at different times while Reno Browne was the female lead most often associated with Wilson.
